In 1997, he began to study graphic design, which further deepened his interest in simple, clean forms. Most of his designs are based on patterns of simple geometrical forms. He finds inspiration in everything around him, from elevator buttons and manhole cover to the terra cotta architectural fragments of Boston's Back Bay. Marek's work includes one-of-a-kind slab-built sculptural pieces, mosaics, tiled screens, and a limited series of decorative wall tiles. Clay isn't the only medium Marek is interested in. Digital art and photography are complimenting his ceramic work; all 3 interact and are source for each other.
His past exhibits have included the Annual Show and Sale at Harvard University Ceramics Studio, a solo exhibit at Harvard Holyoke Center in Cambridge, Artist's Open Studios in Arlington, MA., Alumni Show and Sale at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, "Site Unseen" International Exhibition at Chattanooga, TN., 8th biennial "The State of Clay" at Lexington, MA. and 20th San Angelo National Ceramic Competition
